Alongside various artistic projects expressing a contemplation of humanity and its relationship to the world, Edouard Janssens cultivates another facet of his craft in his work as a professional portrait photographer. He practises the meticulous and sensitive art of portraiture on a daily basis, with characteristic passion, for individuals and for the media, advertising and fashion worlds.
Since 2008, the photographer has based his photography business in Plancenoit, Lasne, working from an extremely well-equipped studio-loft in an entirely renovated old farm building near the Lion’s Mound at Waterloo.
In this charming and easily accessible location, he welcomes all those, whether young or in the prime of life, who wish to treat themselves to a styled portrait in black and white (sometimes in colour, depending on preference) that reveals, unceasingly and beyond any photographic cliché, the strength of the personality.
Advertising photo commissions, shots for magazine illustrations, fashion photographs or private portraits – the same level of professionalism is applied to every request, from initial greeting at the studio to the final production of the photograph.
When they arrive, those who have come to be photographed are put in the hands of a professional makeup artist before going in front of the camera.
The photo session takes place in a relaxed atmosphere and lasts for about an hour. Edouard Janssens’ portraits are the fruit of a technical mastery acquired over the last few years, but also of his interest in the artistic process. They capture the infinite richness of emotion behind the thin veil of appearances, thus revealing - by way of an expression in the eyes, a way of holding oneself, a luminous or shy smile - the beauty of the inner life of those who have allowed themselves to be won over by the camera. The portraits are both understated and staged, shining with truth and yet, in the instant the shot is taken, the artist invites them draw close to the inaccessible.
Re-worked with great care, each photograph is then developed to gallery quality, framed and delivered to the client together with high-resolution files.
